I'm Ready For Some Football

The 2005-2006 NFL season kicks off tonight - and it can't happen soon enough. With the Cubs fading fast in the Wild Card race I'm ready for my first spectator sport love - pro football - to get started. Football is why I subscribe to Sports Illustrated and watch ESPN Sportscenter. I think the sport is fantastic. I'm partial to the NFL, but I enjoy college football as well - especially Notre Dame and the Big 10 conference. What I really enjoy about football is how concentrated it is. 16 games over a slightly longer number of weeks - mostly played on Sunday, though a few are thrown in on Monday nights. It makes for a great weekend event and also means that I have the perfect opportunity to watch the games I want. I'm not dealing with 1:20pm games on a Tuesday. Everything takes place when I'm not at work.

They'll open the season with some players already injured, including R.W. McQuarters, Anthony Thomas and Desmond Clark. Plus, Brian Urlacher has sat out the entire pre-season with an injury. He's suppose to start this Sunday, but who knows how that will go. Even though we've got a new coach in Lovie Smith, I can't say that I have high hopes for the Bears chances this year. The rest of the NFC North divison is going to be tough and the Bears have some rough games against Indy, Philly, Tennessee and Jacksonville - who could be very good this year.

Win or lose, I'll still have fun watching the Bears this season. One, I just love watching football. Two, I'm still playing Fantasy Football.

I'm in two leagues this year - both at Yahoo! I'm in a regular public league; and because I won the public league I was in last year, I get to be in a Yahoo Winners league this year as well. Both my teams are look good so far.

I'm expecting big things from these teams. I love the QBs I've got. I'm mac'd out on RBs. I've got at least one killer WR per team and my defenses are pretty strong. I mean come on! Favre and Hasselbeck, how great is that!

Oh yeah, I am so ready for some football.
