This is what I received in an email two weeks ago.
Buikema is closing their Aurora location in October.
This bums me out for a number of reasons.
1. Buikema's ACE hardware on Eola Road is close enough that I could walk or ride my bike there - and I had done that on occasion. It was the perfect location for when you needed to pick something up for a project around the house. There and back in 15 minutes. It was great.
2. It was a Buikema's run ACE hardware store. The Buikema stores are staffed by some of the nicest, most helpful people I have ever encountered. One of the reasons a trip to the store would only take 15 minutes round trip was because as soon as you walked in the store someone was asking what you needed. And then would help you get all the pieces you needed to finish your project - and usually give you some advice on how to make the project even more successful.
3. Now my closest options are Menard's - which is okay, but there is no one there to help you out. You have to chase people down - literally. I have actually run down isles trying to catch up with what appeared to be the sole floor employee working to ask them for help. If you can catch someone, that's great. They know their stuff and will be a big help. Mendard's just seems to keep their stores understaffed. The other option will be Lowe's or Home Depot, and the less said about these corporate dumps the better.
So I have a few more weeks to enjoy my local Buikema's ACE and then I don't know were I'm gonna get my fix of Chuckles candies.
